The Koisea Legacy

At Koisea, we don't just make jackets; we revive history. We are a specialized heritage brand dedicated to the authentic Sukajan (Japanese Souvenir Jacket), bridging the gap between 1940s Yokosuka craftsmanship and modern global streetwear.

The Roots of the Sukajan

The Sukajan is more than a garment—it is a piece of post-war history. Born in the port city of Yokosuka during the occupation (1945–1952), these jackets were originally commissioned by American soldiers at the CFAY Naval Base.

Soldiers requested local Japanese tailors to embroider their flight jackets with traditional Eastern motifs as mementos of their service. We honor this "Ametora" (American Traditional) heritage, drawing inspiration from the rebellious 1960s Sukaman youth culture to create wearable investment art for the modern collector.

Premium Acetate

We use high-density acetate and satin shells, providing the authentic "silk-heavy" luster and breathability that defines a true vintage Sukajan.

Yokoburi Embroidery

Our high-stitch-count embroidery mimics the traditional free-hand machine technique, resulting in a tactile, 3D texture that digital prints cannot match.

Master Design

Every piece begins as an original hand-drawn sketch in our studio. We own the process from the first pencil stroke to the final stitch.

Heritage FAQ

Why is it called a "Souvenir Jacket"?

The name "Sukajan" comes from "Yokosuka" and "Jumper." They are called Souvenir Jackets because they were originally keepsakes created for soldiers stationed in Japan after WWII.

How do I identify a high-quality Sukajan?

Look for material and stitch. Authentic pieces use high-density acetate (not cheap polyester) and feature heavy, three-dimensional embroidery. At Koisea, we use heritage-grade hardware and traditional ribbing.

How should a Sukajan fit?

The traditional fit is slightly cropped and boxy. For a classic 1950s silhouette, choose your standard size. For a modern streetwear look, we recommend sizing up to layer with a Koisea hoodie.
